ABOUT HENNA

What is Henna?

Henna (Heena, Mendhi, Mehndi, Mehandi), scientifically known as Lawsonia Inermis, is a flowering plant that produces large green leaves. The leaves are picked, dried and ground then prepared into a paste using water and eucalyptus oil to create a dye that can stain the skin for up to 14 days. Ash Kumar henna is triple-filtered and mixed with 100% natural eucalyptus oil, which results in a deep maroon dye.

Henna Stain

Henna fades as it is exposed to abrasion and water. Henna also reacts with temperature: hands and feet will carry the darkest stain (as they trap the most heat), whereas arms, shoulders, the back, etc. will not usually get too dark. Insides of the palms will fade faster, because that area is washed most often.  Henna takes 48 hours to achieve maximum colour. Once the henna paste is applied and the design flakes off, don’t despair if you don’t see the colour you were expecting automatically! A light orange stain darkens to a dark brown/ maroon.

Henna Design Life

How long the henna design stays on the skin is dependent on how long you keep the henna paste on and how you take care of it afterwards. Typically the designs last 1-2 weeks or longer if the stain is darker and your henna is exposed to less water.

Black Henna

Ash Kumar Products do not practice, promote or support the use of black henna. Black henna is an unnatural product and contains PPD, a toxic chemical that can cause permanent burns and scars to the body.
Often, "black henna" is the term that is used when referring to a thick paste made with hair dye and water. Nothing about this paste embodies anything natural, nor uses the ingredients found in safe henna paste.
